Another sample of how photos are included to illustrate the symbols. In each case, a chart inset shows the actual symbol for the object in the photograph.
The text discussion then explains everything else we see in the chart inset. Sometimes there are other things near the symbol of interest which are confusing unless we can anticipate this congestion, which we explain in numerous cases. The "M" in this example, for example, has nothing to do with the buoy, but means the bottom underneath the buoy is made up of mud.
The magenta disk on the symbol means the buoy as a light on it.
